A Soundtrack for Studying

Choder

Posts are going to become more and more infrequent -- I’ve got one more final on 7/29, then the MPRE on 8/6 followed by my bachelor party. In the mean time, enjoy some of the tunes I’ve been rocking out to while studying and when not listening to Secret Agent Radio over at Somafm (that link will open up a stream in your preferred media player, be forewarned).

Sleepy Sun -- Sandstorm Woman

A heady mix of spaced out ass shit, sometimes with harmonica. Bad ass

Marco Benevento Trio -- RISD

I think my favorite part about watching Benevento play is that he always looks like he’s having a blast on stage. This song looks as fun to play as it is to listen to.

Tame Impala -- Alter Ego

It’s sort of like if you mixed Daft Punk with Wellwater Conspiracy. Either way, just listening to it gets you a little ripped I think.

Wax Fang -- Majestic

The one band I need to see live more than anyone else, save MMJ. I only know of them tanks to the fine people over on the MMJ boards and the band themselves for playing some dates with them. But goddamn, what an amazing band

A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES TO THE BLIND WOULD BE AWFUL MAJESTIC.

IT WOULD BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING THAT THEY EVER HAD SEEN.

Dr. Dog -- Where’d All the Time Go

Perhaps one of the greatest songs in the past 5 years. The Album still holds strong as the best of the year

Boat Mix 2009 is dead. Long live Boat Mix 2009!

Choder

What’s summer without trips on the boat? These mixes originated as “Fourth of July Mixes” or “Memorial Day Mixes” but when I realized that the boat needed its own soundtrack, the goal was to make one powerful mix that could last an entire summer. This was no easy task, the mix had to be sturdy and provide a soundtrack to all the various shenanigans one encountered while at sea, mainly pirates and beer. Last summer saw both, and this playlist barely survived. For one, it’s really short. For another, it’s not organized real well. But it contains some essential tracks.

Title: Boat Mix 2009
Mix Style: Themed
Era: Law School
Year: 2009
Music Style: Random
My Rating: 3/5. Decent, not sure why it’s so short though.

Playlist: After Concert Mix from 2002

Choder

I dug a little deeper and found this gem from 2002. It’s a play list in-transition from high school habits to college, indicated for including an emo track (Juliana Theory), and overall having a main-stream feel. I’ve dated it to the Summer of  2002 based on a few factors -- I had just finished my freshman year of college and not began working at the radio station yet, so I wasn’t too much of an elitist snob. I rarely listen to tracks such as “Jane Says” in colder months, but most importantly, that summer I was obsessed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ By The Way, which I listened to ad nauseum while working as a BBQ caterer across northern New Jersey. Also, being closer to Canada, I was turned on to the Tragically Hip. There are a few missing tracks, posted at the end.

My Rating: 2/5. Awful, has slight nostalgic value, but needs lots of ketchup to taste good.
